Thousands of riot police and paramilitary personnel on Saturday fired tear gas, rubber bullets and water cannon at the protesters in an attempt to dislodge them from a major highway into Islamabad. The protesters, numbering as many as 2,000, stood their ground, fighting back by throwing stones and beating police with sticks and metal rods in running battles that continued throughout the day. Oxford Circus: Platform 'altercation' caused tube panic Police have released images of two men they want to speak to, after an altercation at a central London Tube station created mass panic on Friday. Officers want to speak to anyone who was at Oxford Circus underground station at the time of the evacuation. Sixteen people were treated after they were injured fleeing the station, following reports of gunshots being fired on a Central Line platform. There was no evidence any weapons had been fired, police said. Shoppers were barricaded inside stores on Oxford Street and armed police were deployed after the alarm was raised during the evening rush hour on Black Friday. Police initially treated the incident as potentially terrorism-related, before standing down. Emmanuel Macron: Domestic violence is 'France's shame' French President Emmanuel Macron has spoken out against domestic violence, saying it shames France that a woman is killed every three days. In a speech marking International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, he said the silence around the issue must be broken. He has made gender equality one of the main themes of his five-year term in office. A number of demonstrations are being held across France to mark the day. During his election campaign last year, Mr Macron said that the issue of violence against women would be a priority for his presidency. Polls conducted by his then movement, En Marche, suggested that it was the French public's top concern. During his speech, Mr Macron observed a minute's silence for the 123 women killed by their partner or ex-partner in 2016. Nearly 225,000 women were physically or sexually abused by their spouses, but fewer than one in five filed a complaint about it....

In a statement late on Friday, army spokesman Tamer Rifai said the Egyptian air force chased down the assailants who, according to officials, arrived in four 4WD vehicles and carried out the attack during noon prayers. "The air forces chased the terrorists and discovered and destroyed a number of vehicles that were involved in carrying out the brutal terrorist attack ...
