Trump-Russia: Flynn's dealings were 'lawful' US President Donald Trump has said the actions of former national security adviser Michael Flynn after the 2016 presidential election were lawful. Mr Flynn has entered into a plea deal and agreed to co-operate with an inquiry into alleged collusion between Mr Trump's team and Russian officials. The president said on Twitter that he fired Mr Flynn "because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI". He said there was "nothing to hide" in the actions of his transition team. Mr Flynn has pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI about contacts with Russia's then ambassador Sergei Kislyak in December 2016, after Mr Trump was elected but before he became president. Under the terms of the plea deal - with Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating alleged collusion - Mr Flynn pleaded to a lesser charge and a shorter sentence than he might have otherwise faced. Deaths as suicide bomb attacks hit market in Biu NEWS / AFRICA Nigeria Africa Security At least 17 people have been killed in two suspected Boko Haram suicide bombings on a market in the northeastern Nigerian town of Biu, Forty-seven others were wounded in Saturday's explosions, and many were in criticial condition, said Al Jazeera's Ahmed Idris, reporting from the capital, Abuja. "Biu has been largely spared by the Boko Haram insurgency, but many areas surrounding that town have been attacked on several occasions," he said. "This is one of the cases we have been seeing over the past five or six months." Idris said that as of yet there had been no claim of responsibility. Motorway PC stops van from falling off bridge A police officer held on to a van to stop it falling as it teetered on the edge of a motorway bridge. The driver was trapped inside when PC Martin Willis arrived at the scene on the A1(M) in Yorkshire. Writing on Twitter, he said he grabbed on to the vehicle to stop it "swaying in the wind". PC Willis, known as Motorway Martin to his followers, said he couldn't "begin to describe [his] relief" when firefighters arrived. 'Where's your cape?' The van ended up in the precarious position when it came off the road near the border between North and West Yorkshire.
